The pandemic has not halted our social action events! Email kfreeark [at] gmail [dot] com to learn how you can help repair our world.

The Social Action Initiative (SAI) is the JCS’s social action and organizing wing. Its mission is to mobilize engagement by the JCS membership in the service of Tikkun Olam — bettering the world.

JCS Members protesting a new ICE facility planned for Dearborn, MI. The #Closethecamps rally took place in front of the Holocaust Memorial Center in Farmington Hills on August 20.

We aim to:

1) invite JCS members to attend community events that support social action and social justice causes.

2) encourage members to promote events and causes that they are passionate about. We will help you get others to join you!

3) involve JCS youth in experiences with civic engagement and empowerment. We work with the Sunday School and B’nai Mitzvah programs to coordinate classroom and experiential learning.

JCS members stood together in strength with other religious and non-religious organizations, declaring that all detainees deserve dignity, all children of immigrants and refugees need to stay in the comfort of parents’ arms, and all detainees have a right to beds, showers, clean environs, medical attention, and needed clothing.

Have an idea? Please share it! Send an email to info@jewishculturalsociety.org. We would especially welcome suggestions from our young people.

We look forward to bettering the world with you!

JCS students with posters they made for Get Out the Vote, a voter education project undertaken with the League of Women Voters. While the students created slogans and posters, teachers helped them connect their work to tikkun olam and democracy. Students then shared their projects during brunch—an educational and endearing treat for the adults.
